The Xuxen website, the Basque spelling and grammatical corrector, has been revamped; it now has a more attractive and user-friendly design.

This version integrates the most innovative linguistic criteria, that is, it takes into account the latest modifications of the Euskaltzaindia Dictionary and the Elhuyar Dictionary: the words that have been incorporated in recent years, the terms that have been modified and also those that would not be acceptable.

The Xuxen tool is well known, as it has been almost thirty years since its creation. Since then, it supports the latest versions of Microsoft Office and can also be used with other applications:

• MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• LibreOffice, OpenOffice
• Firefox and Chrome Web Browsers

The latest version of Xuxen can also be used in other applications: data based on Hunspell can be downloaded on the web and Xuxen can be used in applications that support this format, such as Adobe InDesign.

The new version can be used both on the computer and online: in the web text box xuxen.eus you can enter the text you want to correct and ask the system to detect errors and propose corrections.

In its web version, the Xuxen corrector now goes one step further. Besides proposing spelling and grammatical corrections, it also takes into account the gender perspective and gives recommendations to avoid discriminatory language, alerting about the sexist use of language.

For example:
• Warns of the use of pejorative adjectives that underestimate women: panpoxa, txolina (casquivana)… • Proposes to replace expressions that exalt the characteristics and capabilities of men and lower those of women: gizon
portatu -> behar bezala portatu, ederto portatu (behave as a man -> behave properly, behave well).
• Proposes a non-sexist and inclusive way of referring to the trades and activities that until recently were identified only with men: legegizon -> legelari (man of laws -> jurista).
• There are some announcements that refer exclusively to men and that have also been extended to women; in these cases he proposes to explicitly mention women and give them visibility: erregeak -> errege-erreginak; maisuak -> maisu-maistrak (kings -> kings and queens; teachers -> masters and masters).
