The automatic translator for Elhuyar, Elia, has been five years old and comes with an important novelty: the possibility of performing voice translations. With this innovation, Elia has gone from being a mere translator to being a tool capable of listening and speaking, integrating three leading technologies developed by Elhuyar: speech knowledge (transcription), machine translation (translation) and speech synthesis (voice).
Today, Elia is one of the most successful platforms in Elhuyar, which is in constant renewal, as demonstrated by the fact that, to the option he offered last year of listening to translations by incorporating TTS technology, he has now been added the possibility of translating through the voice. With all these new developments, Elhuyar reaffirms its commitment to the technological development of Euskera for the benefit of society and multilingualism.
To make the translations by voice, simply press the button with the image of the microphone, select the language in which it will be spoken and start to speak. Elia will give us the result in text or audio in the language we choose.
Translations by voice can be used in 6 languages. For the time being, this feature is available on the website, but later it will also be available for mobile and desktop applications.
In addition to this important novelty, Elia has made a great leap in quality, and an example of this is that the Euskera-French/French-Basque and Euskera-English/English-Basque translations are much better.
Elia has proven to be a tool that not only matches current needs, but continues to lead cutting-edge technology. In addition, it continues to mark the way in the management and promotion of Euskera and other languages, demonstrating that technology can be an ally to overcome linguistic barriers.

Elia has launched a new functionality for assessing translations. With the new “Value translations” functionality, users will be able to indicate whether a translation is appropriate or not. The quality of the translation will be assessed using the emoticons 'Thumb up' and 'Thumb down'.
