
Elhuyar and Euskaltzaindia sign a partnership agreement for five years
- Cooperation focuses on complementarity and reciprocity in interlinking synergies in the work that both organisations carry out individually. The temporary general coordinator of the Elhuyar, Itziar Cortés, and the president of the Euskaltzaindia, Andrés Urrutia, participated in today’s event.
- It should be remembered that on July 18, 2025, Euskaltzaindia already declared Elhuyar as an ‘adhering entity’.
Elhuyar and Euskaltzaindia have signed today at the headquarters of the Academy a collaboration agreement for five years. The temporary general coordinator of Elhuyar, Itziar Cortés, and the president of Euskaltzaindia, Andrés Urrutia, participated in the event. The cooperation focuses on complementarity and reciprocity when it comes to promoting synergies in the work that both entities carry out individually.
Both institutions are already collaborating in disseminating the rules, recommendations and opinions that Euskaltzaindia has formulated on the unified Basque language, and are also working together to enrich vocabulary and standardize the use of Basque language in the scientific and technical fields. With this new agreement, both entities want to intensify and strengthen this collaboration.
The main areas of collaboration between the two institutions will be as follows:
- In the field of lexicography: both entities will act in the future in the context of research projects, dissemination, updating, maintenance of the Basque corpus, transfer of the Basque language to areas in which it is not yet used, social integration and adaptation to the needs of users.
- In the field of the unification of the Basque language, we will work on the transfer of accumulated and progressive knowledge: through courses, publications, articles - reinforcing internationalization -, technical reports, etc.
- They will also share and organize products and projects, initiatives and activities to promote the use of the Basque cult in the digital environment.
- They will promote research (publications, research grants, postgraduate works, doctoral theses, etc.) and they will recognize the work done in the research and promotion of the Basque language (awards, monographs, etc. ).
