The Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka Fair of 2024 is already underway. It has begun today at 11 a.m., following the official inauguration. Deputy Director of Education of the Basque Government; Marie Antoinette of the Basque Science and Technology Network who are collaborating in the initiative;

During the four days of the fair, young people between the ages of
12 and 18 will show the over 200 STEAM projects developed throughout the school year. Today, 29 Baccalaureate and 21 ESO projects will be available; tomorrow, 23 May, 7 Baccalaureate and 47 ESO projects; on Friday, 24 May, 6 Baccalaureate and 46 ESO; and on Saturday, 25 May, 6 Baccalaureate and 37 ESO. A total of 800 boys and girls will participate in this edition. In addition to young people from the educational centers of the Basque Country, there will also be winners from other fairs in both the Spanish and international scope: among the 11 visiting groups, we will have young people from Vila-real, Espinosa de los Monteros, Poio, A Coruña, Lliçà de Vall, Milan and Porto.

We will also have research staff in Arenal, who will evaluate the youth projects and, once all the data is collected, the awards will be delivered on the same Saturday, May 25, at 13:00 hours. The awards will bring together the winners, as well as the authorities and representatives of the various institutions that will deliver them, including Teleco Renta, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Eurorregión Nueva Aquitania-Euskadi-Navarra, the Basque Government, the City of Bilbao and Elhuyar. The winners will receive the following awards: study grants and trips to science fairs both in Spain and abroad. The wizard Eleder and actress María Redondo Múgica will be in charge of presenting the act. In addition, stays in the research centers that collaborate with the fair will be drawn daily.

In addition to young students, Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka also includes research centres and universities in the Basque Country. It is also necessary to highlight the commitment of all of them to this project, a commitment that they renew year after year: thus, at the beginning of the school year, 104 researchers (including 65 women) from the university and technology centers offered to work with students throughout the course and evaluate the work after completion.

The objective of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is to offer young people scientific experiences, as well as to promote and disseminate scientific culture, not only at this fair that is held in Arenal, but also throughout the year.

Since its first edition in 2013 to date, nearly 3,000 young people between the ages of 12 and 18 have presented their projects at the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka fair in Bilbao. A total of 1,000 research or technological projects have already been submitted.

The Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka initiative, organized by Elhuyar, has the collaboration of the Department of Education of the Basque Government, the Eurorregion Nueva Aquitania-Euskadi-Navarra, the FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology), the City Council of Bilbao, the Provincial Government of Bizkaia.
