The new edition of the CAF-Elhuyar Awards is now underway. The objective of these awards is to promote, reward and recognize the dissemination and journalistic work in Basque of topics and research in the field of science and technology, also recognizing the photographic works, as well as bringing these topics closer to society. The prizes are organized by Elhuyar, in collaboration with the company CAF and with the sponsorship of NEIKER.

The motto of this year’s edition is Begi berriz kontatzeko (A Renewed Look), as it is an edition that comes with news. In line with the continuous evolution of society, we have adapted the categories of prizes; thus, along with the categories that award articles and audios, this year the category of scientific photography is added. Young people will have a special role in this category and will be invited to offer their views through photographs.

The categories of the CAF-Elhuyar prizes are as follows:

• Informative articles. Scientific and technological dissemination works created in Euskera will be presented.
  • General articles: dissemination articles on any scientific or technological matter.
  • Articles based on their own research projects: dissemination works based on the scientific or technological thesis of the person presenting the work or articles on the research they are conducting will be presented.
  • Prize: 2,000 euros, a commemorative gift and a year of subscription to Elhuyar magazine.

• Scientific journalism. In this category we will present journalistic papers published in two possible formats.
  • Written format: scientific journalism articles published in a Basque media.
  • Audios: radio pieces or podcasts of scientific-technological dissemination created in Euskera.
  • Prize: 1,000 euros, a commemorative gift and a year of subscription to Elhuyar magazine.

• Photographic works. This is a new category to which photographic works related to scientific-technological topics can be presented. There shall be two sub-categories:
  • Adults: For those over 18 years.
  • Prize: 2,000 euros, a commemorative gift and a year of subscription to Elhuyar magazine.
  • Young people: 14-18 years.
  • Prize: the possibility to enjoy an experience related to science or technology (value of approximately 1,000 euros) and the one-year subscription to Elhuyar magazine.

The NEIKER Prize will also be awarded for the best article related to the primary sector; the prize consists of 2,000 euros, a commemorative gift and a year of subscription to Elhuyar magazine. This prize is cumulative to the other prizes.
