The ON ZIENTZIA video contest, organized annually by Elhuyar and Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) within the framework of the television program Teknopolis, aims to produce and broadcast short and original videos on science and technology, aimed at all audiences. This year's award ceremony, the 16th edition of the competition, was held today in Tabakalera.

This year more jobs have been received than ever, 114 in total, most of them in Basque. But there are also videos in Spanish and English, as the origin of the participants extends to the whole world. All participating videos are visible on the contest website: www.onzientzia.tv

The jury has decided to award in each category the following works:

The gasteiztarra Yurena Carrero has been the winner of the prize for the best video of dissemination (3,000 €), for the work “Gure bigarren garuna: hesteetako mikrobiotaren botere ezkutua”. The jury stressed that “it is a round informative work: the content, the format, the images ｟％0020<％0020/％0020g％0020_％00208％0020>％0020｠ and also the locution. It deals with a hot topic and has been able to integrate the gender perspective with great interest."

The jury has decided to award the prize for the best video in Basque (2,000 €) ex aequo. On the one hand, the biology students Jon Esnaola Lopez, Ane Fradejas Marculeta and Dunixe Urrutibeaskoa Azula have been the winners of the award for the video “Tinder – Match! Edo Kosk!”. The jury highlighted that "it is an original video, full of humor and details. The authors have been able to choose a format that fits perfectly with the subject." For her part, the prize has also been for the zarauztarra Noa Lopez Ochoa, for her video "Olagarroa”. According to the jury, "the author has used the resources very well for a subject difficult to illustrate. It tells us about a special animal, with many details, and also tells another form of evolution of intelligence."

The Young Prize (€1,000) went to the 3rd ESO students of Xabier Zubiri Manteo School in Donostia for their work “Komentsalismoa”. In the words of the jury, "it is a video that reveals freshness and dynamism and in which it is appreciated that teamwork has been the main one. They have identified and analyzed an everyday problem, they have explained it and they have found the solution together."

This year, in addition, the jury wanted to make a special mention to a work that invites reflection. Ainhoa Lopez and Nerea Etxaburu, chemistry students, have made the work “Edertasuna salmentan”, a video that manages to visualize the scientific part, the social part and the pressure suffered by young people and women.

The awards were presented by Adolfo Morais Ezquerro, Vice President of Science and Innovation; Ricardo Díez Muiño, Director of DIPC; Edurne Gaston Estanga, Coordinator of Zientzia de Elhuyar; Marian Iriarte Ormazabal, Vice Rector of EHU and member of the jury; and Nagore Rementeria Argote, member of Teknopolis and the jury.

Marian Iriarte Ormazabal, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Relations and Culture at EHU; Cristina Tapia Huici, Director of Communication at Filmoteca Vasca; Jon Mattin Matxain, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at EHU and associate of the DIPC; Itxaso Azcune Tolosa, DIPC's communication technique; and Nagore Rementeria Argote, member of Elhuyar and Teknopolis, were in charge of judging the videos.

The ceremony will be broadcast on a special of the television program Teknopolis, along with the award-winning works and statements of the award-winning people. The program will be available on June 13 at 13:30 on ETB1, and on June 14 at 12:25 on ETB2.
