
23 projects prepared by young students during the school year have been exposed in Tolosa, in the first edition of the fair “Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka | STEAM Gipuzkoa”
- The Plaza de la Alhóndiga de Tolosa has witnessed today the first Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka held in Gipuzkoa, organized by Elhuyar and Kutxa Fundazioa.
- 100 young people from 10 ESO, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training centres in Gipuzkoa have presented the projects they have developed throughout the year.
- In addition, the company Algaloop de Asteasu has presented at the fair representative samples of its research and innovation work.
This morning the first ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka òSTEAM Gipuzkoa’ was celebrated. Young people from several Gipuzkoan schools have had the opportunity to expose in the plaza de la Alhóndiga de Tolosa the projects carried out during the course. The fair was inaugurated at ten and a half in the morning with the act of cutting tape, which was carried out by young participants along with representatives of the organizing, sponsoring and collaborating institutions of the fair: Ander Aizpuru Susperregui, Director of Kutxa Fundazioa; Garazi Andonegi Beristain, Head of the Elhuyar Science Department; Jokin Bildarratz Sorron, Education Advisor to the Basque Government; Olatz Peon Ormazabal, Mayor of Tolosa ruiker Uratua The opening ceremony was completed with a tour of the fair of all representatives.
Throughout the morning, students between 12 and 18 years old have presented in the plaza de la Alhóndiga de Tolosa the 23 projects carried out during the course. In total, there were 100 young people, 65 girls (65%) and 35 boys (35%) from 10 Gipuzkoan schools: IES Aralar de Alegia, IES Erniobea de Amasa-Villabona, La Salle de Beasain, IES Talaia de Hondarribia, IES Oriarte de Lasarte-Oria and Colegio Herrikide Tolosa, IES Orixe, CIDEA Tolosaldea and Steam school. Together with the schools, the company Algaloop de Asteasu has presented at the fair representative samples of its research and innovation task.
The ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka ăSTEAM Gipuzkoa’ fair has been organized by Elhuyar and Kutxa Fundazioa, with the sponsorship of the Basque Government Department of Education and the collaboration of the City Council of Tolosa and Tolosaldea Garatzen. This fair, which is held for the first time this year in Gipuzkoa, is an exhibition of projects developed by young people that offers them the opportunity to live from within scientific research and technological development, and in which young people from ESO, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training of Gipuzkoa have participated. The main objective of the fair is to bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) closer to citizenship and to develop in students both STEAM and transversal skills (communication, creativity, innovation, teamwork, etc.). ) and offer scientific experiences to young people.
The fair held in Tolosa is the colophon of the work carried out during the course. During the school year, 18 schools in Gipuzkoa and 357 young people participated, including 171 girls (48%) and 186 boys (52%). It is also worth noting that this initiative involves as mentors people engaged in research in the Basque Country, with the aim of bringing the real world of science and technology closer to youth and inspiring it.
Today’s ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka or STEAM Gipuzkoa’ is part of the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka network, which is also part of the Cambo Xalbador College, held in April, and the ‘Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka or Nafarroa Teknozientzia’ fair. All of them are included in the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, to be held in the Arenal of Bilbao on 2, 3 and 4 June, which will be its eleventh edition.
