Mycroft.eus - Intelligent assistant in Basque

The aim of the project is to develop an intelligent assistant who understands and speaks Basque, for which we collaborate with the companies Skura and Talaios. To do this, we will adapt the free software Mycroft AI, and improve and integrate two systems developed by Elhuyar: speech recognition and synthesis, both developed based on artificial intelligence and deep learning technology. The assistant, in addition to speaking and understanding Basque, will adopt a local perspective in order to prioritize news, music and trade in the Basque Country. In addition, it will ensure user privacy and take gender perspective into account.

This project, which is expected to be ready by the fall of 2021, has had the financial support of entities such as the Etorkizuna Eraikiz program of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Hazitek program of the Basque Government to support business R&D, and the European Language Grid platform. For its part, the city of Errenteria will cede the Torrekua building to develop the project.
