The registration period for Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is now open. Anyone interested in participating can register on the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka website.
The 2027 edition will be held in Bilbao from 5 to 8 May. Over the course of four days, in which young people from all schools in the Basque Country will be able to participate, ESO and Baccalaureate students will present at the fair the science and technology projects developed during the course. The purpose of the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka fair is not only to publicize science and technology projects, but also to encourage the use of the Basque language.
Collaboration of research staff to promote youth projects
Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka will once again bring young people together with researchers to develop scientific and technological projects. More than 200 researchers from the Basque Science and Technology Network have already been registered (60% of them are women), to help young people develop their ideas and carry out their projects. In addition, the option to register for this year's edition is still open.
The contribution of researchers is essential for young people to research, experiment and develop new proposals from their curiosity. Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka continues to serve as a bridge between students and professionals in the world of research so that young people can know first-hand what it is to research and apply science and technology to everyday life.
15 years driving science and technology
Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka will celebrate its 15th anniversary with this year’s edition. Since its first edition in 2013, it has been dedicated to giving an opportunity to the ideas and scientific curiosity of young people, and more than 9,500 students have participated in the initiative. In total, they have submitted more than 2,500 research and technology projects.
Over the years, the fair has been gathering more and more participants. In the last edition held in Bilbao in 2026, more than 640 young people participated with 160 projects in total, and there were also international participants. The numbers show that Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka has become a reference to encourage young people's interest in science and technology and to publicize their projects.
Both the winners in the previous edition and those of this year will have the opportunity to visit some international fairs and can also visit the research centers of the Basque Country to get to know research professionals closely.
