Over the past decade Elhuyar has conducted various studies to find out what perception Basque society has about science and technology in order to foster reflection and collaboration among the players in the sector. The most recent study was carried out in 2012 and its results were published in the autumn of 2013.
Study into the social perception of science and technology in the Basque Country (2012)
Investment in science and technology and in the developing of them should be on a level comparable with that of Europe’s most developed countries, as can be gathered from the “Study into the social perception of science and technology in the Basque Country (2012)” conducted by Elhuyar in collaboration with the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country’s Chair for Science Culture, and the Department for Education, Language Policy and Culture of the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community.
This study aimed to find out the opinion of Basque society with respect to science and technology and to produce a diagnosis of the situation. In addition, the evolution of the opinion of Basque society in relation to these issues was also analysed by comparing the results with those of the study of 2008.
As regards the qualitative aspect of the work, the 15 group dynamics sessions run should be highlighted; and in the quantitative aspect, the participation of 1,258 people across the Basque Country.
